Moved out of our B&B in Martock and headed off towards
Cornwall. Called into Torquay (likes to be known as the Englich Riviera) on the
way, a port city, lots of boats, we were going to have a little boat ride but
the weather was looking a bit threatening.
Had a coffee and talked to the barista who pointed out a nice short walk
around the headland. Started to rain
lightly on the way back to the car, didn’t get too wet but it rained most of
the way to the Dartmoor National Park where we had lunch at a pub in
Lydford. The pub is 700 years old, great
food and a drink. The rain had gone away
by the time we’d finished. Dartmoor is probably
best known for its prison, built in 1810, at one stage early in its life it
held 6000 prisoners, it now holds 600.
We didn’t get to see the prison, although I nearly cleaned up a
policeman in the car today (long story, it wasn't my fault!!) so I may have had a closer look at it
than I wanted!!!
Drove down the road to Lydford Gorge, it’s a 5 kilometre
walk along a gorge, pretty tough going with slippery rocks and paths. When we arrived it was cold and windy, put on
jackets, big mistake, the sun was soon out and it was a very pleasant walk. Left there about 3 and drove to Port Isaac and it again rained most of the way, stopped as soon as we arrived. Port Isaac is best known
for being the backdrop for the Doc Martin series. An absolutely stunning scenery, the photos
show a small section.
Got to our B&B about 6.30 after picking up some nibbles
for tea. Big day today, sleep well once
again!!

I loved the photos of Port Wen! Not Port Isaac seriously! Every time I watch Doc Martin I think how beautiful the town looks and your photos look just as good, it looks just lovely! Plenty of walking going on, good to see but a couple of areas look rather close to the edge!
ReplyDeleteWe are really living on the edge of a cliff or two, I just keep my distance in case Pam gets any ideas! We do lots of walking, sometimes it like magic, we walk up 500 steps and down 200 and end up back where we started, very exhausted by the end of the day, at least we sleep well. Port Isaac certainly is an ideal film location, we spoke to one of the locals and he was very positive about the impact he has had on the area although he said a couple whinge a bit.
ReplyDeletehi you two, you certainly won't be putting on any weight on this trip with all the walking and climbing you are doing. Love the look of Port Isaac.
