Lyndon, Exmoor National Park and Wells

Very wet start to the day, we left Cornwall and headed to Wiltshire.  Decided to call in to Lyndon on the way.  Lyndon is a coastal town bordering the Exmoor National Park and has a good cliff walk along the coast and back in through the mountains.  Unfortunately by the time we got there it was pouring rain, coffee and cake time in town, rug up then on the way through the Exmoor National Park to Wells.  Climbed the mountains into the park and ended up in the clouds.  The park is devoid of trees and has just a few sheep around the place.  Stark mountainous landscape, extra special in the rain and fog, didn’t get to stop to take photos  because there was really nothing in the park except mountains, valleys, grass lands, sheep, fog, rain and a little road we followed cautiously.
We have been listening to the BBC broadcast of the ODI world cup each day while we drive, the match today was at Bristol and it was so wet not a ball was bowled so we weren’t the only ones inconvenienced.

The trip to Wells was to take 1.5 hours, struck a fair bit of traffic on the way to Wells and it took 2.5 hours.  By the time we got there the sun made an appearance, we did a visit to the Cathedral, incredible how these buildings were constructed so large so many centuries ago and with such intricate carvings.  Did some shopping then headed to Malmesbury to our next B&B.  We drove through Bristol and the Friday traffic turned a 1.5 hour trip to a 2.5 hour trip.  Needless to say we’ve had a long time in the car today.  Busy walking day tomorrow!!!

  1. I am amazed at how many photos you have taken of the Cathedral - obviously a closet Catholic Vernon! Did you get to watch Ash barty play last night? (I would have given her a capital B but stupid auto spell kept changing it to an 8! What the!) I so hope she wins tonight - she is pretty amazing. Great week sports wise, with the State of origin, the cricket and Ash winning! Your new accommodation looks comfortable and quite roomy. xxx By the way this is Trish writing all of these comments, just under Gary's email. He said to say thank you for his card and scratchie - he won $8. going towards our holiday fund, only $29,992 to go!

  2. Your holiday funds is obviously on the way up, well done! We have been keeping up with the State of Origin, the tennis and cricket, no wonder we are exhausted!!! Ash won Roland Garros, fancy that, what a win!!!! We have been very pleased with our AirB&B choices so far, lets hope to luck keeps up? I've always been a closet Catholic, just a shame most of the churches we visit were overrun by the Church of England during the 16th century, I'm sure they waited till the churches were built then thought.....we can have a piece of this.....then just claimed them for themselves. Got to love the righteous!!!
