GOOD WIN QUEENSLAND!!!
Big day today, have lots to see. Woke up and looked out the bedroom window, warm and sunny, looked out the front door, cold and wet. This will be the last weather report, we'll never understand it!!!
Headed to the most southerly then the most westerly points of mainland UK. First stop Kynance Cove, allegedly the most photogenic cove in the UK. They're not too far wrong from what I could see. The cove hides a large sandy beach surrounded by rugged cliffs full of caves and topped with harsh grassland. We got there early and were soon joined by lots of holiday makers with their swimwear clad children carrying buckets and spades. Didn't see anyone actually in the water but it looked like good holiday fun. The scenery was stunning and the walking exhausting.
From there we went to Lizard Point, the most southerly point of the UK. Once again the rugged cliffs ravaged by the ocean which today was very calm. Of course we did the walk, went down towards the 'beach' before we realized we had to go back up and along the cliff face to get to the actual southerly point. We are really racking up the steps (most of them feel like they are uphill!!). Rewarded ourselves with a Cornish cream ice cream.
Down the road to St Michaels Mount. This is an Abbey on an island off the coast. The thing is that it's only an island at high tide, we were there at low tide and could walk out along the causeway and back along the beach for a little look around. This place must have been built by the same contractors who built Mont St Michel in north east France (Maureen just visited), very similar design and aspect.
Next to the most westerly point - Lands End. The visitors centre is fairly daggy, with lots of touristy shops and cheap souvenirs. The landscape made up for lack of culture in the area, we had the walk to the westerly point, took a hundred photos then had a late lunch/early tea of a traditional Cornish Pasty, hot and tasty, very filling. On the way home called into a little cove at Sennen, saw lots of sand, life guards, the flags were up and lots were in swimming (albeit all in wetsuits).
Another exhausting day, home, blog, beer and relax.
