New Lanark and Glasgow

Full day planned, first to New Lanark then a walk around Glasgow.  New Lanark is a small village just out of Glasgow and was built on the upper reaches of the Clyde River and used the river to power a cotton spinning industry and still processes Scottish wool.  It is a heritage listed village and is very well cared for.  Our interest was on a walk along the River Clyde looking at the rapids and waterfalls.  Very strenuous walk up through a deep gorge...reminded us a bit of Karijini.  Had coffee and cake then drove back to Glasgow.

We were a bit underwhelmed with Glasgow on our short walk along the river yesterday so Pam did a bit of research and found a walk from point to point through the city centre.  Thoroughly enjoyed the walk, saw most of the good bits of Glasgow and were very impressed with the cleanliness and architecture of the city, lots of renovations and new building going on, lots of artwork to brighten the place up and everyone seems busy and happy throughout the town.  The university obviously brings lots of the younger generation to town.

Had an early tea in an Irish pub near the parking station and got home a bit later tonight and now need to plan tomorrows trip to the Isle of Skye.

Workers house, now a youth hostel

This is a luxury hotel
