Left Lossiemouth in a cold cloudy morning, first stop
Fraserburgh. We decided to have coffee,
stop near the high street and walked along to find a coffee shop. It was windy and cold but you’d think the
locals would be used to it? Not so, there was not a soul in town and not a
coffee shop to be found. There was a
bakery with a coffee machine, we found out too late the barista had no idea how
to work it. My coffee was cold and weak,
Pams was scalding and strong. We had a
cake and roll and on the road again to Aberdeen.
By the time we got to Aberdeen the sky had cleared and a
heat wave had hit the city, temperatures of 15 degrees were recorded!! Walked the mall at Aberdeen to the visitors
centre, went through the Maritime Museum, wonderful history of the Port of
Aberdeen along with interesting information about the oil industry in the North
Sea, of which Aberdeen is the centre. The
harbour is full of oil industry shipping, huge boats which are built to
withstand the ravages of the North Sea.
Walked out to Footdee, an original little village at the
mouth of the harbour where time seems to have stood still. Spoke to a local on the way, he’d lived there
for over 50 years, one of his neighbours had lived in the same house in the
village for 90 years. Narrow lanes and
cute little houses tucked between the harbour and the beach took us back to a
time before cars ruled our lives.
Started the walk along the extra long promenade along the
beach of Aberdeen, had lunch in the warm sun before it was time to be on our
way to visit Mums cousin, Jimmy, in Forfar.
Stayed a couple of hours there catching up on all the family news then
on the way to our B&B in West Wemyss, maybe our best B&B so far!!

Well we are home now and it is good to catch up with your adventures and there appears to have been many of them! Weather has looked great at times with the bluest of skies but also a fair bit of shivering going on! I'm glad the Orkney islands were good, I am keen to visit there when Gary and I go! Your holiday seems to be going so fast - does it feel like that for you as well? We has the best time ever at Uluru and Alice Springs - no fights amongst us all and we had the best time together. It was bloody freezing out there at times so we sympathised with you!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you had a good time in the NT, we look forward to all the stories and photos. Our holiday is going very fast, next minutes we'll be home!!! Maybe we can have a little holiday when we get home? The weather is so strange over here, we'll never work it out. Love Pam and vernon
