On the road south this morning, we're leaving the north where the sun sets after 10pm and because of the twilight it's not dark till 11.30pm; then the first light hits the sky at about 3.30am.
First stop to be Wick for breakfast, as usual when we get into town before 10 o'clock no one was about when we walked through town, we found a pub open which had a breakfast menu outside, went inside and half the town were inside having breakfast, we'd obviously found the holy grail of Wick breakfast bars. Didn't disappoint.
On our way again down the coast towards Loch Ness. Beautiful coast drive, we could see wind farms and oil rigs in the North Sea, not many stops, just driving along enjoying the views. We were driving through gorgeous sunshine but the closer we got to the Loch the darker it got. A soft drizzle of rain falling when we bravely bought tickets for a cruise on the Loch. We had 40 minutes to wait, by the time we got going in the boat the cloud lifted and blue sky broke through....just in time!!! Loch Ness is fascinating, it holds more fresh water than all the lakes/dams/reservoirs in England and Wales combined. The boat we went out in was a research boat, only 10 passengers and the captain was full of knowledge. Didn't see any monsters.
In to Inverness, a very clean city, we had a late lunch and had a walk around the town, along the banks of the Ness River. Almost back to the city and it was ice-cream time. Pam had a cone and was really enjoying it, she had just finished the top and was about to eat the best part with the ice-cream and cone together, as we crossed the bridge a seagull the size of a wedge tailed eagle swooped and knocked the cone out of her hand and he and all his mates then ate the remains in about 10 seconds. Seagull is not Pams favourite birds.
A late finish at our B&B on the coast of Lossiemouth.
