Oxford

Spent the day in Oxford today.  Followed the Morse and Lewis trail (the TV show for those unfamiliar).  We were going to do the walking tour but it was booked out, fortunately there was a friendly woman at the visitors centre who showed us on a map where to go.  We started well but got a bit distracted along the way.  Walking around Oxford was not a bad compromise.  Walked past the prison and past a few of the Colleges (there seem to be hundreds of them, all linked to Oxford University) and found ourselves at the Magdalen Bridge where they do some punting on the River Cherwell.  Decided to give it a go, lucky we employed a punt operator and had a very nice sail around an island on the river.

Walked down to the Thames River and along the tow path for a while and came to the Head of the River pub, across the river was a boat doing 40 minute rides up the river.  Bought a ticket then because we had to wait half an hour, decided to have a drink at the pub while we waited.  Exciting boat ride, rowers were passing us…..but we got a good look along the river and back.  Continued our Morse experience to the Police Station and Court House, located Morses favourite pub, The Bear Inn and had a late lunch (4pm).  By the time we’d finished it was time to call it a day and return home.
Just one small problem, we'd parked our car a huge shopping centre in the middle of town, then forgot where the carpark was.  After about half an hour we found the carpark, in a different but adjacent buildings to the centre.  Thought we were going to spend the night on the streets for a while....

First is the Morse trip for those who watch the show

The Randolf Hotel where the Americans met

The window where the body (of actor David Soul) could be seen

  1. Oxford looks amazing, we have watched a few Lewis's and definitely recognise the square that I think appeared in nearly every show! Great looking place, always thought that when we watched the show! You are seeing so much, I am very jealous!
