The Trossachs, Loch Lomond and to Skye

Left Glasgow on the way to Skye.  Left early because we had lots to do and see.  First stop was into The Trossachs National Park and to Balmaha on the eastern shores of Loch Lomond.  We did a walk up a very steep hill to the Craigie Fort for a view of the Loch and Inchcailloch Island down to a couple of beaches including Manse Beach, a bit stoney but we're used to that now!.  Back in time before the rain started then on to Tarbet.

Tarbet is on the western shores of Loch Lomond, we bought tickets on a one hour cruise up the Loch but it was cancelled at the last minute so we drove to Glencoe, through an incredible gorge, it was a little wet in Glencoe so we decided to get back in the car and drive to Fort William.  Drove through the gorges and highlands of Scotland, the landscape varied from heather covered swamp with lots of little lakes to huge rocky mountains towering above us along the road.  Lots of green, lots of waterfalls and a fair share of liquid sunshine.  Had lunch at Fort William and a very short walk (straight across the road to the shops) because we had to get to Mallaig to catch the 6.10pm ferry to Armadale on the Isle of Skye.  Drove to our B&B, went for a little drink down the road. Time for bed now.

  1. Nice to see you with a jumper on, Vernon.
What did you think of Fort William? I seem to remember we didn't like it - very dark and run down.
That was 20 years ago, of course, so may have been some improvements since then!!

  2. Thanks Maur......It has been cool on some occasions, I even had to wear my jeans one day!!! The little we saw of Fort William was very nice, modern mall, all the shops were new and it was very neat and tidy, sadly we didn't have too much time there so (unlike yourselves) we didn't get time to check out the seedy side of town!! Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
