Off to Ordsall in Nottinghamshire today. Wanted to call in to the cliffs and beaches
of Flamborough on the way. Drove through
the North Yorkshire Moors and the way our satnav behaved we thought we might
come across a ripper or two? Beautiful
drive though through such desolate country, the heather is just coming out in
bloom and the sheep are all over the road.
Drove along a high ridge for about 20 kilometres with views both sides
of rich farming country in the valleys.
Made it to Flamborough with a little detour just north to
Thornwick beach, amazing white limestone cliffs which of course meant a walk
down a million steps and back up again. On to Flamborough where the beach is just as
far down from the cliffs and the beach and cliffs even more astounding. Looks a bit like a white Twelve Apostles but
with not as many apostles (well, just one actually!)
Next stop was Leeds and as we’ve found in most places in the
UK they hide the Visitor Centre in a place where no-one can find it, Pam
wandered around the numerous malls, I set a target to find the Visitor Centre
(a successful operation , though a little too late to be useful) then went and
had a pint at the Horse & Trumpet Public House. We met up and left late for our drive to our
Ordsall B&B.

| Our new B&B, an old tractor shed |
Views look amazing again. Bit like the ones of the White Cliffs of Dover? You seem to have been lucky so far with your B&B's? and it is nice to see the weather being blue and clear for you. We hear that there is a heat wave in Europe and hot days in England! Not too long til you are at Wimbledon, is it? What day are you there and do you know the matches you will see yet?
ReplyDeleteThese cliffs are very much like the ones at Dover, completly different stone though. The ones at Dover are really like chalk and are like poder in your hand, whereas the Flamborough ones are limestone which is what they make lots of buildings with so it's quite hard. We had a heat wave yesterday, 22 degrees, the POMs were whinging about how hot it was?? We are at Wimbledon on Friday and the draw won't be released until Thursday night, basically the people who play Thursday won't play Friday so we won't get to see Barty or Tomic (good and bad....). Don't worry we'll let you know what happens, with photos!!! Love Pam and Vernon
