In the interests of research and solely to determine if the rumours regarding the poor quality of UK beer were true, I embarked on the arduous task of sampling beers around the country. Some days were more difficult than others as I was forced to endure just one more ale in the interests of science.
I have determined after all these in depth inquires that the beer is good, some of the local beers pumped from the keg at a tepid 12 degrees are in fact quite delicious, if only they could turn the thermostat down a little. But I persisted as you knew I must and have photographic evidence of some of the 40 odd (some very odd indeed) ales I have sampled. Please don't count the photos, I lost count after 30 so there may be some samples I have left out in the interests of health and safety.
I found it disappointing that the publicans, after letting them know I was an 'influencer of note', still made me pay for each beverage. It has put a dent in the budget but I'm sure you'll agree (once I work my way through explaining each and every brew) that the effort was well worth it. Pam agrees this has been a mighty and well worth endeavour and we hope to bring some of these diverse tastes to the antipodeans as soon as word of my research leaks out to the Australian press.

Wow! I just read from start to finish. Yes I had a little time on my hands! What an awesome trip. So many beautiful towns I wouldn't even think of visiting. Seems like you didn't miss a thing. Windemere brought back memories of my trip with Sheri 20 years ago. We got a boat across the lake but we missed it going back - I was on it but Sheri was in the toilet and he wouldn't wait for her. So I had to get off. We had to walk back. We tried hitch hiking but nobody would pick us up. How rude! Have a safe trip home. Oh, and as per your comments in the Southampton blog, I occassionally refer back to my bogs too! 😂. Love, Leah.
ReplyDeleteBig effort Leah, you certainly had time on your hands!! Happy it brought back such a traumatic memory; as they say in the classics, all the best stories start with a disaster? If everything went to plan you'd have nothing to talk about? We love looking back at our blogs, starting from 10 years ago on our first big overseas trip, it's great fun. Our memories are so bad now we need the blog so we can check what we've done for the last 6 weeks!! Love Pam and Vernon xxxxx
